The Portrait Reconsidered course is designed to unpack contemporary portraiture's history, context, and nuances across various artistic mediums. We will discuss several themes, such as the selfie, surveillance, agency, and provocation, in relation to the portrait.
Students will hear from various voices through workshops, lectures, field trips, and open dialogue. At the end of the 14 weeks, students should have gained the knowledge and skills to develop projects around critical concepts put forward in the class. This course welcomes all majors.
