This class focuses on publication design and process/production related to print. The project subject will be a defined study in "Design for Social Impact". Students will interrogate real-world systems-social, political, economic and interpersonal-in order to illustrate chronic systemic issues that present themselves globally through time. The outcome will be produced in the form of a richly illustrated book that sheds light on opportunities for change. Students will strengthen their narrative-based design thinking along with applying and advancing their typesetting and layout skills. Students are expected to exercise deep research and way-finding intelligence. We will cover correct file organization and formatting for print, CMYK color space, and working directly with a printer and bindery. There will be 1 field trip: Primary Color or and Echelon Prepress. Please note that this is a Graduate Graphic Design level course.
