1) In the course of the term each student will develop his or her definition of propaganda;
2) They will develop a broad familiarity with the techniques of persuasion, ""perception management"" and information manipulation & control and they will become familiar with the variety of ways in which the principles and practices of contemporary advertising and Public Relations intersect and overlap with the practices of propaganda;
3) They will be introduced to the ways in which the imagery of contemporary advertising establishes an environment for the dissemination of propaganda;
4) They will learn something of the ways in which the economics of advertising influences the flow of information and the practices of censorship;
5) They will be introduced to examples of ""Alternative Media,"" and alternative sources of information; and,
6) They will learn the meaning of ""full spectrum"" information.
