It is important for I.D. students to have an intuitive understanding of how products function in various ways in order that design solutions be intelligent. For this class each student is required to select a product which is then taken apart, the constituents analyzed, information recorded, and then it is reassembled. The wide range of products examined provides useful information and understanding of things from motors to materials. Deliverables consist of a notebook of research material, sketches and notes of the process plus one large exploded view drawing of the product that was examined.
Making Things Work It is one thing to have an idea and it is quite another to make it work. Students in this class are assigned a goal, governed by a set of rules, that require building a device to accomplish it. Deliverables are a built thing and a notebook of sketches Illustrating the thought process.
