To create a new spatial environment, furniture, lighting, and fixtures that reflects how the experience of work has changed in the office. A space that attracts people and enables them to interact, be productive, and ultimately achieve a sense of joy in doing their best work. The office is changing. Technology has enabled work from anywhere. The pandemic solidified the idea of alternative spaces to get work done. But the office remains a central space to establish a company identity, create a culture, have deep social connections, and enable one's best work with the right tools and spaces. It needs to be a place people choose to come to (rather than must come to) because it helps you be more productive, healthier, and ultimately brings a sense of joy. For most knowledge workers, work is a process that toggles between individual focus, virtual and physical collaboration and in person social connection. Significant change is taking place in the workforce including a new generation that have a completely different concept of where and how work gets done. Today's offices struggle to support these activities with the occupant's performance in mind. The health and wellbeing of the office dwellers are top of mind as we bring people back to support creativity and innovation. Through Haworth's research lenses like the Affordance framework, we focus on human performance in the workplace- to ensure they are physically, emotionally, and cognitively tuned for optimal performance. What we need are solutions that balance the variety of work activities in offices that are thoughtful and inspirational with a fresh lens to how work can get done in the office. The outcomes of a well-designed space should increase productivity, creativity, social connections, and wellbeing. How might we create a sense of 'Joy' in the workplace, where productivity, affinity, and innovation are supported? We will not only be designing the spatial experience, but the furniture, lighting and fixtures which redefine the opportunities for connection between knowledge workers, destination and experience.
