Building on Type 3: Context, Type 4: Editorial goes beyond foundational typographic skills and introduces students to the complexities of editorial design. Emphasis is placed on navigating dense content, advanced text hierarchies, and multi-page formats through the use of grid systems and thoughtful integration of type and image. Students will explore the importance of research, context, pacing, and visual storytelling in shaping cohesive editorial narratives. A key focus of the course is developing an appropriate typographic voice or tonality tailored to a project's subject matter and audience. Assignments may range from structured information design to more experimental explorations that push the boundaries of editorial communication, encouraging expressive and conceptual typographic solutions. Outcomes demonstrate a vision for how a campaign can cohesively exist as a multi-sensory experience across touchpoints. ??This is a foundational course required for all Graphic Design students.
