SXD-204: Color, Material and Concept

Credits 3
Instructional Method
Academic Level
This course explores the emotive and spatial impact of materials and color as integral elements of the design process, not as separate disciplines, but as essential to shaping experience. Through research and hands-on exploration, students examine how the fundamental qualities of materials and color influence perception across scales, from object to building. Material and color strategies developed in this class directly inform work in the main studio, supporting students in making intentional, concept driven decisions that complement their overall design direction. The course includes design challenges, precedent studies, and exercises that encourage students to uncover the expressive potential of materials and color in spatial environments.
